Context
Classes are user-defined categories to tag and categorize transactions.
Customers can generate financial reports that are categorized by these “tags”, to make more informed business decisions.
Problem
QuickBooks already offers class tracking, which drives 10% of mid-market sales.
Businesses could accurately categorize all transactions, except payroll expenses.
Payroll settings only allow one employee to be assigned to one class.

What did the business owners want?
An easy tool that allows hours and classes to flow automatically into payroll
Option 1
Employees select a class while tracking hours.
The data automatically flows into the timesheet for employers to review and use for payroll.
Option 2
Employers enter the class while running payroll, adding the data directly to the payroll flow.
Who enters the class?

Decision
After discussion with Engineering and Product, we chose Option 2.
Focus on employer instead of employee.
Prioritize accuracy over hassle to ensure reliable financial reporting.
